Thieves and assassins in Shol Mara have never liked each other. Now they go to war.
There are three factions:
Thieves
Assassins
The Establishment
The Setting
A War of Shades takes place at roughly the same time as The Archbold Chronicles. It is set in the city of Shol Mara, which resides in the Esari Republic. This story takes place in the summer, shortly before the Sun Festival.
The Conflict:
A very basic outline of my idea. Tensions between theives and assassins have always been high, for the reasons noted above. All-out conflict hasn't yet erupted because thieves are wary of assassins' skill at killing (obviously), and assassins are badly outnumbered (to the tune of 5-10:1). A misunderstanding (TBD) between the two, is the final straw that ignites the conflict. When more dead bodies than usual start showing up, the authority questions whether to do anything about it. They have nothing to lose by letting one, or both, guilds perish. Some wish to stop it (murder is murder, after all). Some want to do nothing. Some encourage it (it is these people, in fact, who started it. Little twist). I know what the story takes place in a fairly large city that resides on both sides of a river (kind of like Budapest), and I'm thinking that this war lasts for less than a month (maybe 22 days, since that's by favorite number). But I do know that the climatic battle takes place on the rooftops under the illumination of festival fireworks. The working title is "War of Shades".
